for all the republican proselytizing and all the screaming about how this is proof of an incremental rolling shift in america - "last time it was 49/49, this time it's 51/47 - we believe america is moving to a republican stance", every analyst and commentator seems to be missing one fatal factor - almost HALF of america is UNHAPPY with the way things are currently being run! ALMOST HALF!!!! holy SHIT this should be a wakeup call and a half! unless he wants to keep pissing off 47% of the us, he should walk away from this "election" with thoughts of a centrist administration for the next four years. if the republican party truly intends to hold onto the white house thru the next election, the only hope they have is tempering their message with a little social awareness and not relying SOOO heavily on the far religious right's opinion. oh, yea, you have no choice but to pay attention to the religious segment but you don't need to go after the hard right nutcases - "gays are an abomination, war is always good because our god is right and so on" - stick with the more moderate masses - THERE'S where your numbers are... and they're a lot more tolerant than you think.... because a lot of them are "sunday christians"... they could care less about god and the implications of their actions during the week... only on sunday do they truly fear. and likewise, if the democrats ever hope to take the white house back, they need to acknowledge that you need the moderate christian vote. seperation of church and state are NEVER going to happen. the two are inextricably meshed - that's a simple fact of life. i don't have to like it but i'm resigned to it.
sigh. i don't know how this devolved into a treatise on religion in politics but whatever. i'm off to work on auctions for awhile and then to a midafternoon showing of 'the incredibles'.... WOOHOO!! PIXAR RULEZ!! and pixar doing comic book superheroes RAWKS!!!

.... and the silence is broken.
today is the big day... we find out whether we have four more years of tyrannical, despotic and civil liberty stealing leadership or the hope for SOMEthing better..... i think you probably know where i stand on this whole election thing..... i've kept my mouth shut for the last three weeks here trying not to get too uptight or too verbal about this whole thing but i figure since today is the day, WHAT the hell... why not.... i find it exceedingly difficult to keep my mouth shut for long periods anyway. so... whatEVER you do, please go vote... no, not please - JUST DO IT! it is your OBLIGATION. if you don't stick your hand in and attempt to voice your vote on who rules over you, you shouldn't be allowed to breed. we don't need a bunch of apathetic morons running around bitching about who is in office when they didn't even help out with the electing. on the flipside of that though.... if you don't know the issues and don't know WHY you are voting for a particular candidate, for GOD'S sake, DON'T VOTE!!!!! DO NOT!!!! i'm pretty sure that's how bush got into office last time. voter apathy..... "oh he'll never win.... i don't need to go vote..." ... and look where that got us. an attack on our own soil, a war in a country we have no business in and so on. when i vote today, it won't be just for me... it'll also be on behalf of my daughter.... i don't want her to grow up in a land where more and more freedoms are being taken from us everyday under the pretense of "national security".... NEWS FLASH - to protect us does not require taking away our freedom. patriot act my ass. nor do i wish for her to grow up believing that it's a-ok to rush headlong into a foreign country and invade it for our own selfish reasons. oh and to the deadheads who scream i'm not a patriot:
It is lamentable, that to be a good patriot one must become the enemy of the rest of mankind. ~Voltaire, Philosophical Dictionary
Patriotism is a kind of religion; it is the egg from which wars are hatched. ~Guy de Maupassant
Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons. ~Bertrand Russell
