:: Saturday, November 17, 2007 :: ok, back home now. yes, i survived. so here's the rundown - unless you just CREAM over the music of the trans-siberian orchestra, skip the live show if it rolls into your town. first, the players are technically very proficient. i just didn't feel much "soul" in the music being played or in their playing itself. most of the music made me want to choke on my own scrotum. christmas music. grand. there were a few pleasing tracks. wizards in winter. you know... the song everyone likes to synch their christmas lights to? yea, that one. the actual songs with lyrics were WRETCHED! stick with the orchestral stuff. instrumental. liked the first song they came out with but don't know what it was. even barb (who liked the show) agreed on about half my points. especially the feelings about the vocal music. i would have to call this a mediocre show at BEST. at worst, it was a complete waste of 2 1/2 hours of my time. but the daughter loved it and the wife enjoyed it so what do i know. i'm a music snob. i say if you REALLY want to hear an electric orchestra, listen to THE Electric Light Orchestra.... or emerson, lake & palmer... not this corporate group for the 2000s. again, all my opinion. my final analysis of the group is 1 part electric light orchestra, 1 part whitesnake (any hair metal band will do) and 1 part shakespearean actor with average talent and a bag of unnecessary theatrics. does that about sum it up? but again - that's just me and what do i know.
